Onam celebration

On 25th August 2023, Onam was celebrated in Pope John Paul II College of Education. It was a pleasant view to see students in bright traditional wear.  Artistically the vibrant rangoli was great and students were taking photographs of themselves and their friends along with the rangoli. In the morning session, we had an orientation program where students shared their views about the college, colleagues, and atmosphere with the help of their one-week experience in the college.

During lunch break, all the participants of the program were busy with their work to give better performance. The Onam program began in the afternoon session with a prayer song performed by our college choir group, followed by a welcome address delivered by our student teacher, Subina. Next, Anto Mebisha and her team mesmerized the audience with a group song. Our student teacher, Arundhati, gave an insightful speech on the significance of the Onam festival. Then, Agnes Anu and her group presented a skit on the theme "traditional vs. modern Onam '' which involved the participation of both freshers and seniors. In that drama, one of the freshers named Aswitha performed the role of Onam king Mahabali. Then the presidential address was delivered by our college Secretary, Rev. Fr. George Ponnaiah. Subsequently, our first-year student teachers showcased their talent through the Onam traditional classical Thiruvathira dance. Our college principal Dr. Justin Antony shared some fascinating facts about the Onam festival, and this was followed by a speech delivered by Rev. Fr. Vivek. Then a few first years contributed a group song under the leadership of John Wycliffe. We sang a song titled 'Thirumamani Ravu' which was originally sung by Unni Menon, Sithara Krishnakumar, and Meera Scharma. Our student teacher, Rishika, and her team set the stage on fire with a folk dance performance that gave an energetic vibe to the students. In the concluding part of the Onam celebration, Stella, another student teacher, delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks. The celebration culminated with the singing of the National Anthem.

After the program, our college management offered every student ice cream as a token of love. Most of the students and staff shared their Onam wishes. It was a wonderful beginning to that weekend.
